TEXAS

(Fri) 5-24-02
I had a very relaxing night in Hitty Maggie's room. She was so kind to offer me her room. I read a book most of the morning, a gift from my host called "Wanderlust", by Danielle Steele. It is a story of a young lady that travels as I do. Later I went to visit Hitty Eleanor and Andrea. Hitty Eleanor and I knitted. That afternoon my host Sylvia told me we were to have a visit from her dear friend Audrey from Sequin, Texas. That evening we prepared a dinner for her and enjoyed the evening, swinging on the porch swing and listening to the noisy tree frogs and watching the full moon.

(Sat) 5-25-02
My host sewed outfits for Hitty Audrey and me. We changed and had coffee and Kolacher in the backyard. We enjoyed listening to the birds (blue jays, red birds, and small sparrows). My host tied me to a wooden bench and placed me on the bird feeder. I had my picture taken with a blue jay. He was only interested in the feed. Not like the small crows that I had spent 2 days with. At noon, I went to Sally's Beauty Supply to help my host friend Audrey find hair color. I helped her match a sample, and also tried to match my hair color too. I purchased a blue brush for my host and off to Galveston, Texas we all went. We crossed a long bridge and headed to the beach. I felt the sea air in my face and took a deep breath. I met a lifeguard named Ryan. Hitty Audrey went with me and we found an abandoned sand castle. She and I went among the seaweed looking for shells. We were all hungry and went to Sandry's for a late lunch. I helped select lunch from the menu. Our waiter Hugo helped me into his pocket and I had a good view of the dessert tray. Later we relaxed on the beach. I also visited the Moody Mansion, Bishop's Palace, saw historical homes and a cemetery, and visited the Strand. I met a pirate in front of a gift shop. Hitty Audrey and I sat in a large sea shell. Things are bigger in Texas. That night I helped Audrey color her hair and went to bed exhausted.

(Sun) 5-26-02
My host, friends, and family went to church. I hid in the book bag. I heard beautiful songs and a good sermon. It recalled to my mind the day Phoebe hid me in her muff. Afterwards, we all went to eat at Casa Ole. Later I went with Audrey and host to the Thrift Stores and antique stores. They bought a few knickknacks. I remembered the antique shop with the cuckoo clock.

(Mon) 5-27-02
Woke up and dressed. Went to a restaurant named Kelly's. Great food and you better bring an appetite. All food served seems to be for a giant, Texas is big, big, big. I said goodbye to Audrey. She told me she had a great time with me and had my picture to show her grandchildren. At around 2:00 PM, I went to the San Jacinto monument, which honors all those who fought for Texas Independence. I received gifts of Texas currency, Texas Independence Declaration 1836, Texas Chili Cookbook, Texas magnets, Texas postcards, and much more. I also visited the Battleship Texas, that served in both World Wars. Later that afternoon, my host husband cooked BBQ for all. I helped in turning the meat and preparing the side dishes. Hitty Audrey and I enjoyed a horse-ride among the garden. I received a horse, named "Tex", from Hitty Audrey, We have shipped him to Julie, while I continue my journey
