FLORIDA

(w) 5-8-02
What a wonderful time I had with Viola and Jan visiting Hitty Margaret in Redwood, New York. I made so many new friends but I was excited to be traveling again. I am on my way to a new Florida adventure to visit Paula and Hitty Georgina. I get to go on a new type of transportation for me: a jet airplane. It was very fast compared to the other ways I had traveled and yet so many delays. I was so very happy to finally arrive at Paula's house. What a warm greeting I got when I arrived. Mrs. Plum gave me a big welcoming hug when she opened the door and led me into her warm, fragrant kitchen where she was making a fresh batch of cookies for me. After lots of hugs from Hitty Georgina and her friend Izzy, (short for Izannah), we had a wonderful time eating the cookies and visiting together. Hitty Georgina helped me get settled in her room and afterwards feeling tired from my trip, I decided to lay down for awhile.

How beautiful Florida is, but so warm. It was 91 degrees today and I feel I should have packed some cooler clothes. Hitty Georgina lent me one of her summer dresses and we were off to see St. Petersburg Beach. How beautiful the water is, all warm and sparkling with the waves breaking over the beach. Hitty Georgina, Izzy and I found a sand dollar and starfish to bring home in my basket. I bought some postcards and plan to write Julie and the girls when we get back. What a shock when we got back! I am so sunburned!!! Ohhh! Ohhh! I hurt so and I don't want to move much. Hitty Georgina told me to take a cool bath in tea to soothe the pain. I feel this will be another early night…

When I awoke this morning I felt so much better. That tea bath sure helped to take away the pain and instead of looking like a boiled lobster I have a real nice tan. Today we will stay home and visit. We went outside and Paula & Hitty Georgina showed me the biggest tree I have ever seen. Paula said it is called a Banyan tree and is over 150 years old. It has all of these dangling roots hanging down and Paula helped me swing on them. Whee - what fun I was having. Hitty Georgina and I took turns swinging all afternoon. Afterwards, we looked at all the pretty flowers. Today is a nice breezy day. I love when the breeze blows through my curls. What fun we are having.

Today I picked my first orange off of Paula's tree. Umm, umm, good! I picked two to take back with me. They have places called orange groves where you can send crates of oranges to your friends. I wonder if Julie and Hitty Charlotte would like some?
