Virginia

Sept.18th, Thursday

I have arrived in Annandale Virginia. I must say, I had quite a jostle when I was rudely stuffed into the mailbox! I yelled (In a most lady-like way, of course) "Please do be careful! I am in here!" But the mailman obviously did not hear my plea. It took Elizabeth's husband Dave to dislodge the shipping box from the mailbox. It was wedged so tightly!! Now I will have to have a new shipping box, as it is quite mangled. I am thankful that my wonderful collection of things did not fall out of the box or become damaged. I am fine as well. I have been through a lot on my journeys through the US postal service, let me tell you!

It is late now, and I am exhausted. If Hitty Georgia will stop her endless chatter maybe I can get some sleep. (I DO like her, though, and I know we will be wonderful friends!)

I do not know what we will be doing on my stay here, but I am looking forward to whatever is in store for me. I miss all of my wonderful friends, whom I have met in my travels.

Sept. 19 Friday

When I awakened this morning, I was not feeling very well at all. My host family members were not feeling well either. I went to the doctor's office and if it weren't for Hitty Georgie holding my hand, I would have been rather terrified.

The nice doctor told me that he thinks I am just in need of some fresh air after being inside that stuffy shipping box. I am actually feeling a bit better this evening.

Sept. 26th Thursday

Tomorrow I am off to Cambridge, Maryland. Mr. Collins has told me that we will be traveling over a three mile long bridge over the Chesapeake Bay, and that if I look closely, I may see a ship that bears a resemblance to the "Diana-Kate". I will be sure NOT to lean out of the car window while I am looking!

Sept 29, Sunday

We have returned from our trip to Hershey Pa, to go to the model house show. It was such fun! All of the model houses were just my size. I was reminded of my horse 'Tex', and the fun Hitty Audrey and I had in Texas! I know it will not be long now until I will be reunited with Tex, and I'll be settling down in my new home. Oh, I wonder where it will be?

October 1 Tuesday

This evening we all went to the ice cream social at the children's school. Yummy! And so many people asked my name, and wanted to know all about me. So many know of Hitty, Her First Hundred years, and it makes my heart glad.

October 9

Today we are having a little party for David, my host family's youngest child. He is 6 years old today. We are having a lovely cake and he is excited about opening gifts. I love a party! But if I keep eating ice cream and cake, I am going to need to let out the seams on my dresses!

October 11

I have forgotten to write of my little trip to the flea market. This past Sunday, we went to a large flea market and a lady there was selling the most wonderful vintage linens. Oh, how I could have spent hours at that booth! I was admiring some lovely vintage crochet sachets and I remarked to Hitty Georgie how I would love to have one adorn my travel trunk. Well, imagine my surprise when we arrived back home and Hitty Georgie presented me with a beautiful pin sachet...and it was the one that I had liked best! In wonder how she guessed which one I'd like the most? us Hittys must all have the same preferences.

This coming Sunday, we will be going to Clifton Day. It is an arts and crafts and antiques festival in a quaint little town called Clifton, here in Virginia. There will be lots to see and do, and I hope that I will have some lovely photographs of myself to show all of my friends. I wonder if I will meet any other Hittys there?

October 14 Monday

Clifton Day was such fun. I met some Civil War Re-enactors who kindly posed with me for some pictures. We had fun looking at all of the antiques and crafts. There were some simply beautiful quilts that were drawing quite a crowd of admirers. One booth had some dolls, and it was there that we found my new friend, Peggy. She is a peg doll from England, who is wearing a lovely wedding gown. She certainly resembles us Hittys, so she is an honorary Hitty friend.

We entered a raffle for an absolutely enormous pumpkin and we won! It was a good thing that we had brought a wagon with us! it weighs about a hundred pounds!

October 18 Friday

Well, I am getting my things together and soon I will be on my way back to Anne and Julie. I have had a wonderful time with all of my friends, but I feel I need to settle down now. Soon I will find out who I will be going to live with.

I am so excited!

This ends the diary of Hitty Alice. Perhaps, in her new home, she has started a new adventure journal!
