4--1" x 1" Light

8--1" x 2 1/4" Light
4--1" x 2 1/4" Darks

4--2 1/4 x 2 1/4" Darks

Borders: End Borders are 5 1/2" x 1 1/4"
Sides Borders: 7 1/2" x 1 3/4"

Backing: 81/2" x 7 1/2"
Batting--very thin, or even none at all--7" x 6"

Note: the borders can be cut to fit length-wise, if your block ends up a bit small, which it might with so many seams.

Press each step carefully.

Step One: Assemble the 1" x 1" darks and lights in a Nine-Patch fashion, as shown.

Step Two: Assemble the 1" x 2 1/4" 8 Lights and 4 darks as shown. Makes four units.

Step Three: assemble units from Step One and Step Two plus the four 2 1/4 x 2 1/4 Darks, as shown.

Step Four: Add Borders as shown.

To finish, center the batt and the top on the backing. You can hand quilt, machine quilt, or tie off for a vintage look.
When finished with that, fold the backing up and around to the top. Fold raw edges under, pin down, and sew the hem around.
