The Original Doll
More info can be found here.
She is housed at
Sutter's Fort SHP, a State Historic Park in Sacramento, CA.

"I am a little wooden doll with a painted face and
a knob of painted hair on top of my wooden head. .." pg 9
" ...my dress was usually a little square with a hole for my head,
sewed together with a few awkward stitches and tied around the
middle with a bit of ribbon sash." pg 14

We know she was jointed  (pg 14) and 4" tall (pg 14).
But you should make your 'little country cousin' any way you want!
