Hitty Pearl S. Buck Visits with Martha

Tea Time with the Maxwell, Firehouse and Meadow Hittys families.

Hello again, dear Hittygirls!
Today has been quite a day, weather-wise. We have had howling winds
and horizontal rain. I did hear talk of it getting worse this
evening. Too bad, as we were to tour Boston today. Tomorrow I have
some plans of the academic sort for the Maxwell and Firehouse Hittys.
The Meadow Hittys will be watching the Kidlets for us. I am certainly
enjoying my visit here, and it seems there are many plans for my
stay! I spent a quiet moment today, chatting with Hitty Maple. It is
always nice to meet "cousins" and Maple is also a "Hicks Hitty." I
have also been enjoying all the little ones here...Kidlets and Bittys
galore! The gracious Maxwell Hittys did not even flinch when I told
them I had brought along baby Yamata. Yamata has been staying at the
firehouse and seems to be loving every minute of it.
I will write again soon, and until then, you may enjoy the picture of
myself and Hitty Maple in the October photo album.
Yours Truly,
Hitty Pearl S. Buck

Hello, dear Hittygirls and boys!
Hittymom Martha has placed a photo in the October folder. You may

I gave the Maxwell and Firehouse Hittys some of my published works
last night. (The Meadow Hittys were already asleep...) I asked
them each to try and read one by today. Hittys are extremely fast
readers, you know! Such exciting discussions were sparked by my
assignment. I do believe that Hitty Marcy read three of my books!
She seems very interested in me, and also in the Chinese culture. I
think she would make a wonderful mother for little Yamata. I have
not brought this topic up yet, as I know she and Red have their
hands full with three other little ones, but Yamata seems so content
with the Firehouse Hittys. An international adoption would be such
a wonderful result of my stay here, I believe. Well, there is still
time.
Today, I surprised the Hittys with a lesson in Mandarin writing.
The Hittys were very enthusiastic and I was pleased with the
results. I also taught Bitty Early-Tulip (a lovely little Firehouse
Bitty) to draw using ink and quill. She did a wonderful drawing of
a bamboo tree and I was delighted to be presented with it as a gift
of friendship!
We hope to make it to Boston soon!
I am enjoying my stay here very much. But one thing is quite
curious. I do believe there was a dog sleeping in my bed last
night! A mystery, as the Maxwell Hittys do not have a dog... Ah,
maybe I was dreaming!

Yours Truly,
Hitty Pearl S. Buck

Such a festive mood here with three Hitty clans under one roof! I
just witnessed the carving of a 'Pumpkin Moonshine' and am eager for
the sun to set so that I may see it lit. It is certain to be a
ferocious sight!
The Bittys are running around excitedly in costumes and such, and
Miss VanDroo has made them each a special Halloween treat!
I had a 'photo session' today, and the photos did come out rather
well. I am told that there is a special project that the best
picture will be featured in. How exciting!
I also had my photo taken in a spooky Halloween landscape, courtesy
of "Hitty Candy" who is a cloth Hitty on display here for
Halloween. It seems a dreadful fate to be a "display Hitty" and
never to travel and see the world, but Hitty Candy assures me that
she rather enjoys the excitement of being taken out once a year.
She also mentioned that the Maxwell attic has many interesting
places to explore. It would be interesting to explore this "Attic
Culture" more in depth, but as I am an expert in the Chinese
culture, I will have to leave this Attic Culture for another Hitty
to document.
A photograph of me in Hitty Candy's Halloween Landscape can be found
in the October folder.
Happy Halloween, friends!

Good Day, My Hitty Friends!

Such a mystery was awaiting me this morning! I was all cozy in bed
(I do believe the Hittys are allowing me to sleep a bit too late)
when I realized that yes, indeed there was a furry dog! Right next
to me! He was quite cozy also, I might add. And what a cute little
thing he is! Well, I wondered why the Maxwell Hittys hadn't
properly introduced us! After making my bed (which took a bit
longer than usual with an excited dog jumping about) I made my way
to the kitchen. Only Miss VanDroo was at home. When she saw the
dog, she jumped in surprise! She had never seen him before! And
oh, I did feel sorry for her, as she felt so embarassed that he had
been sleeping in my bed. I tried to calm her down a bit, and to
persuade her that really, I truly love dogs and enjoy their
company. Poor Miss VanDroo was all of a dither.
It was then that I was informed that all the Hittys had gathered at
the Firehouse for a "Rainy Day Cookout". Miss Vandroo and I (oh,
and the little dog as well...) made our way up to the Firehouse and
had a delightful time. I have posted some pictures of this
adventure in the November folder. Hitty Maple also informs me that
once she gets to the bottom of the dog mystery, she will be writing
about our cookout in her journal.

Yours Truly,
Hitty Pearl Buck
(who feels a storyline for a new novel coming on!)

Well, Hittygirls, a trip to Boston has been vetoed by all. Alas, we
had such a busy day yesterday that today just seemed like a nice day
for resting and preparing to say goodbye. Tomorrow, I must once again
board the Postal Bus. While I am so thrilled to travel to Texas, I
also know that I will be sad to leave the Maxwell Hittys and all the
other Hitty Clans here. They are truly a close-knit group and have a
great deal of fun together!
We had a wonderful day yesterday, traveling to Historic Deerfield,
Massachusetts. And what luck that the Cantonese exhibit was there!
We picked up many goodies for me to take along. I have placed a few
of the pictures in the November folder. However, Hitty Maple has
written about the day in her journal with much more detail. You can
find her journal by clicking on the link below.

Dear Hittygirls,
It is getting late, but I wanted to write once more before I depart
tomorrow for Texas.
It was a tearful goodbye here. I am not going to return to Hitty
Cottage tonight, but rather climb into the cozy bed in the Postal
Bus box. I am sad to leave, as I have said before, but it is not my
first goodbye, and certainly won't be my last. I have helped Hitty
Marcy through the first of the red tape in her official adoption of
Yamata. She is so in love with the baby (and the baby with her!)
that there is no separating them at this point and I must say that I
am so pleased. Also, Hitty Maple has uncovered the mystery of the
dog. It seems that Hitty Tea owns the dog. When she was adopted
into the Maxwell Hitty Clan, she was made aware that I was arriving
shortly. She decided it best to try to hide the dear little dog
(who's name, by the way, is Splinters) until my departure. She
didn't want any hullabulloo! Well, we all had a good laugh when we
found out, and Splinters seems very happy to be out of hiding. Like
myself, Hitty Tea is truly an animal lover. The Maxwell Hittys
presented me with many lovely gifts, some of which can be seen in
the final picture I have placed in the folder. The Bittys were
extremely interested in the packing. (The Hittys asked that I point
out that they are all wearing their lovely new "cold weather"
dresses made by Fung Hicks.) I insisted that Hittymom Martha buy
the Hittys a book of my quotes. She was trying to make one, but she
just simply is NOT a bookmaker!
I will contact you all as soon as I arrive in Plano, Texas.
Until then,
I am Yours Truly,
Hitty Pearl Buck

There was also a very nice Hatter in Deerfield! He explained to us that the
term "Mad Hatter" is actually incorrect. It was indeed the felters that worked with the poisonous chemical mercury who became "mad" as it accumulated in their system and slowly took away their cognitive abilities and damaged their kidneys. This solemn tale was lightened up a bit when Hitty Pearl's head was measured for a hat! She has a head circumference of 3 1/2, which caused the Hatter to chuckle. My hittymom gave him her address, and does hope he will make her a hat!

A Sad Farewell
What good luck that we all had new dresses to wear when we said our last farewells to Hitty Pearl Buck. It only helped a bit to ease the sadness of saying goodbye, but we did look nice. We never made our planned trip to Boston, but HPB truly didn't mind after the excitement of yesterday. It was nice to spend a quiet day at home today. Perhaps HPB will visit again and we will have more adventures together. I do know that we will always be friends.
