Hitty Soujourner Truth with Laurel

She is better known as Sojourner Truth, but she introduced herself to us by her given name of Isabella and her chosen name of Van Wagenen, so we're calling her Isabella. She settled right in - although her ankles were swollen from the trip, she said she does not care to have idle hands and asked for a needle and thread. Said she's been thinking of a quilt to make from the fabric she brought with her, and hopes to complete it by the time her journey is over. So, we settled her in with a bucket of hot water and some herbs she requested to soak her feet in. We read that she is 6 feet tall, but she seems to have shrunken just a mite. We were relieved that we had a bed that fits her fine. Once she is rested up we will post pictures.

Sojourner and Boo took me to the doll show today. they SAID they were dying to meet Fung and Celia, but they kept finding all sorts of things at the show that they thought I ought to buy. They found TWO vintage Miss Hickory's, and one of them was Hitty sized, so we were very excited. They egged me into buying a set of those Dennison crepe paper paper dolls we were discussing last month. Sojourner had me going through every 2 for a dollar box, and tsk tsked over anything priced over a dollar, even then saying she thought things should be 2 cents tops. Boo however, thought price should be no obstacle - nor should space. I felt like I had a devil on one shoulder and an angel on another. On the way home, Sojourner said how pleased she was that we were able to find a Polish doll for 50 cents, and the Hitty sized Miss Hickory for a dollar, and looked out the window when anything that cost more was mentioned. She's quite accepting of modern life, but the prices of things horrify her, seeing as how hard she had to work for every penny all her life.
