Hitty Nellie Bly visits Kathie

The scene behind our complex..Snow for Nellie

Dear Hitty girls,

After much resting from my trip from Georgia to Wisconsin, I gathered
with the Hometown Hittys last night. Everyone was so appreciative of
my visit considering the cold, cold weather. But with my
adventuresome spirit, it was not bad at all. The girls asked so many
questions about what it was like to be a reporter in days when women
weren't really appreciated for their worth...It was a challenge and I
told them that you can do just about anything you set your mind to,
if you are willing to make some sacrifices and work hard. We talked
until the wee hours of the morning.

Then, this morning, my hostess Kathie, remembered that her friend
Peggy had wanted her to attend an event at Olbrich Botanical Gardens.
Every year, train collectors set up amazing scenes and settings and
the rooms are filled with Christmas trees and whimsical, miniature
faerie villages.
There are hundreds of festive poinsettias, many evergreen tress
decorated with LED lights and whimsical, miniature faerie villages,
featuring iconic Madison buildings. The faerie village was done by
Tatiana Katara..Kathie asked the train Conductor if she could take
some pictures and he reply was.."of course..do you want me to set her
on the train? How about over here?" There were several ladies who
then asked about me.
A little girl standing nearby overheard the conversation and said "I
KNOW HITTY"! She had read the original books and the other
scholastic books that were out. It turns out that she was the
Conductor's daughter. So, I was allowed to have my picture taken
just about anywhere I wanted.

It was a perfect day...More pictures will be posted but we are quite
tired and will post more tomorrow...

Sincerely,
Hitty Nellie Bly

Dear friends,

Today was quite an invigorating day. It is 13 degrees outside with a
windchill factor of minus three!! Kathie decided that I must have
some more pictures to share, so we braved the temperature and shot
just a couple. The other girls declined our invitation to join...One
of the girls, I think it was HItty Caroline, found an old ratty shawl
made of mohair and I put it on. It did help, altho, as you can see
from the icicles, you wouldn't want to be outside very long.

Tonight we are having popcorn and sitting by the fireside...We are
hoping to get down to the Aldo Leopold Nature Preserve before the
week ends to get some good nature pictures. The weather is supposed
to warm a bit by the weekend. Then I will be on my way to
Flintstone, MD for a visit with Ms. Sue Parker.

Love to all,
Hitty Nellie Bly

-------------------------

My dear friends,

Due to much inclement weather, we haven't been able to get around
much here in Wisconsin. There has been snow, rain, fog causing a 100
car pile up close by, and even a tornadoes in the southern part of
the state. So rather than hold up our next hostess, tonight Kathie
is taking me with her to the Madison Area Doll Club. I am sure that
many members will be quite interested, as a few years ago, they
hosted a luncheon, at which a Judy Brown Hitty was the was the
souvenir. (And Kathie DID NOT EVEN KNOW ABOUT HITTY AT THAT TIME!!
THAT IS THE DOLL THAT GOT HER STARTED, BUT ALAS, NO MADISON HITTY FOR
HER!! :'( :'( :'( )
So with that said, we will attend tonight's meeting. I will be off
to Flintstone, MD to visit with Sue Parker. I have a lovely lined
traveling basket that was made for me by Celia, so I shall be "quite
comfy" while traveling.

Yours truly,
Hitty Nellie Bly

Dear friends,
Attached is a picture of me and some of the other dollies at the Doll
Club. The ladies were making little jackets and hats.
I want to point out to you one little dolly in the green and gold
with a Packer dress and jacket, plus a "cheesehead"...These
people are nuts!!

Dear Friends,

This morning, Kathie took me to the postal station. I am waiting
here for the postal bus to carry me to Chicago, where I will then
board an airplane and will be arriving in Flintstone, MD soon for a
visit with Sue Parker and her family of Hittys. It has been a
pleasant experience here and I received so many Hitty hugs as I was
preparing to leave, it almost left me breathless! Some of those
Hittys hug pretty hard!
Talk to you all soon.

Sincerely,
Hitty Nellie Bly
