The long lead time is designed to give you plenty of time to come up with some ideas, research and order supplies and make all your plans plus get started making this swap, before signups end. That way you will know if you are in too deep before signing up. You can also back out right up until partners are assigned. The worst case scenario then is that your own Hittys will appreciate your efforts. How bad can that be :-) ?

In this swap, you will sign up and make your item, but you will not get a partner until the due date.
If you are not finished making your swap, you will not get a partner.
If you are, you will get a partner, and mail out immediately.
Pat says this type of swap is really good, because if you don't have your item done,
you don't have to worry about being late as you just won't swap!
No penalties for signing up but then not being able to complete the swap~!

Hitty loves to travel. Please join in and help her on her cultural journey with a new outfit of foreign dress (any place on earth so long as it really exists) and any other items you feel will help set the mood for the country of your choice.

The rules:

This will be a big swap. The wonderful thing about cultural swaps is that some costumes are quite complex or require hard to locate parts, and others are quite simple. There is room for everyone. You are encouraged, but not required, to include items that fit with your chosen culture. If your costume is quite complex, (say an embroidered Russian outfit) that may be plenty, and if it is simple (sarape and drawstring pants) you might want to add more – just use your best judgement.

With foreign dress, you can choose a culture that shows off your best talents – whether it is weaving grasses, embroidering bodices, batiking caftans or shopping in special places for that perfect fabric or baskets, pottery, etc to go with your culture.

Think about your chosen country and what people from there do and enjoy. What games do they play? What crafts do they do? Are they known for their dolls, or a particular character? What do they eat? Do they play a distinctive instrument?

Think of Hitty coming back from visiting your country. What would she like to tuck in her suitcase to bring home? Something from the list above? A camera full of photos? A map or poster or scarf with a national scene? A piece of jewelry? A statuette or furry friend?

The sky is the limit. Have fun brainstorming and researching your favorite country, and be sure to post photos when you receive your swap.
